ICIE Membership Drive

The 2009 ICIE Membership Drive is in full swing. Some 18 years ago, a group of Idahoans formed the Idaho Council on Industry and the Environment - with a vision of bringing science and facts to bear in environmental discussions. Today, we’re bringing experts to the table to discuss water use in this century and the impacts of climate change. We’re educating policy makers about new technology to heat our schools or fuel our cars, and challenging children and educators to think about where food, building products and computer components come from.. With regard to the environment and the impact environmental policy and attitudes can have on our lives and our economy, there are issues springing up all the time, each with a need for research and understanding of the science and facts that surround them.

ICIE’s Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Committee helps us bring facts and science to the lawmakers and regulators who make decisions that impact all of us. Among its members are scientists and policy experts from a large number of Idaho business concerns. They analyze issues and advise agencies and legislators of their conclusions on environmental questions. The work of the committee gives more structure and strength to our efforts. Policymakers have welcomed these efforts and told us they appreciate ICIE’s help.

The primary areas of emphasis for ICIE’s work include water and air quality education, endangered species issues, public lands and energy sources. With our annual Gold Room Workshop at the Legislature, educational programs, public workshops and publications, we continue to bring the science and facts to bear on emotional arguments in order to reach realistic solutions for industry, policy makers and the public.

We delve into complicated issues and examine the science behind them with a goal of identifying the pertinent facts. In light of today’s environmental and economic concerns there is very little room for guessing at solutions to environmental issues. Uninformed, emotion-based decision-making can ultimately be expensive and inefficient. We facilitate forums for calm, rational discussions which bring about thoughtful decision-making. That's why your continuing support of ICIE is so important. The support of our members helps us find the factual answers to pressing questions and bring them to the attention of decision-makers at all levels.
